The Reverend Battle Beasley

Dear People of God,

As we continue to celebrate this season of Epiphany I am thankful for the ongoing Revelation of God’s love

in the world and in my life. I have come to understand that so long as I am trying to pay attention, trying to

notice God’s activity in the world and in my life, I am still growing. And the more I notice of God’s activity,

God’s presence, and the broader my understanding of God becomes. It is exciting to me to have those

moments of  “aha”! Those moments of epiphany wherein I get a glimpse of God’s love that I had not

understood or experienced before.

Knowing that there is sooo much more for me to learn and experience of God gives me great hope.

Particularly when I look at the conflict in the church and in the world. I am filled with hope that God is

working God’s will out in ways I do not yet understand. I am filled with hope that as I try to live faithfully,

doing what I believe God is calling me to do, God will use that offering of “ ourselves,  our souls and bodies”

to bring about healing, reconciliation, redemption of all God’s children. I hope you too are still growing,

experiencing Epiphanies and being filled with hope.

The Light has come into this world and the darkness cannot overcome it.

God's Peace,

Battle  +

FALL FEST

Someone once told me that if you want a project to be successful, you must advertise, and do it early.  I guess that Sandy Winters is on the right track.  She has announced that anyone who is interested in helping out with this year’s Fall Fest in ANY way whatsoever, should contact her.  She is listed in the church directory.  Don’t wait too long.  I know it isn’t even Lent yet but we want this year’s fair to be bigger and better than last year. There are dozens of jobs from setting up tables to making crafts and everything in between.

SPRING IS COMING

It is time to think spring.  It is only January but it is time to start those seedlings so that when the ground is ready, the St. Mark’s Garden can grow once more.  Spring will be here before you know it. On that same note, we will also be looking for people to mow and plow.  Start building up those muscles!

LABYRINTH

Don’t forget about our labyrinth.  While you are out enjoying the garden and grounds, why not walk the labyrinth?  Why not tell your friends about it.  Let them know what how great it is.  If you want to meditate and pray with nature, here is a good way to do it.

Altar Flowers

The St. Marks Chapter of the Daughters of the King would like to share the beauty of Sunday’s altar flowers with those in our community who are experiencing troubled times in their lives.  Each Sunday, we will personally deliver the flowers to a member of the church or to a resident of a nursing home as a token of the love and concern of St. Marks parishioners.  If you have donated the altar flowers and wish us to deliver them to a special person or want to take them yourself, please let us know.  Marcia Williams e-mail is (MamBNA@aol.com) to let us know your wishes.  If you don’t have someone in mind, we will rely on our priest and vestry to let us know to whom the flowers will be delivered. We will begin this outreach in February

“When God measures a man, He puts the tape around the heart instead of the head.”

Episcopal Relief and Development Responds to Earthquake Victims in Iran
1/7/2004

[Episcopal Relief and Development]

Emergency relief efforts continue in the ancient city of Bam, Iran after a deadly earthquake struck on December 26.

Episcopal Relief and Development is working to help people caught in the disaster. CNN reports at least 25,000

people are dead after being buried under homes and buildings made from mud bricks. Almost half of the city's

population of 80,000 may be dead, according to the Associated Press.

The situation is especially critical for tens of thousands of people left homeless as winter weather sets in and

temperatures drop below freezing.

Episcopal Relief and Development's initial emergency funds will provide supplies such as tents, blankets, water, and

medicine. ERD will continue to assess critical needs on the ground through ecumenical partners.

ERD is accepting donations for the Iran Earthquake Fund. Make a contribution using a credit card online at www.er-

d.org or by calling (800) 334-7626, ext. 5129. Donations can be mailed to: Episcopal Relief and Development, P.O.

Box. 12043, Newark, NJ 07101.

ERD asks people to pray for those affected by this tragedy. Please visit www.er-d.org for updates.
