The Reverend Battle Beasley

Dear People of God,

As we begin our Lenten journey I invite you to make a review of your "habits of the heart".

Lent is oft times seen as the season in the church year when we try to quit our bad habits. Lent is sometimes used as

another chance at our new years resolutions. And while both of those intentions may well be very good and indeed

bear fruits of the Spirit, I invite you to look deeper into your heart.

Our habits of speech, action, thoughts and attitude are reflections of our inward spirit, reflections of our hearts. And it

is the habits of our heart that the season of lent invites us to examine and if needed to change.

Are you worried about what others think of you?

Or, do you worry about what you think of others?

Are you working to make sure your needs are met?

And are you sure they are not being met at the expense of others?

Are you worried about tomorrow for yourself or for the generations yet unborn?

Are you happy with your life as it is or are you concerned for those whose lives are less than they could be?

These are a few questions that invite you to awaken to your habits of heart. As you begin to reflect in your heart ask

yourself, ask God, what is your prayer, for yourself, family, friends, strangers, community, world? What is your prayer

calling you to be and to do at this time in your life?

May your Lenten journey bring you deeper knowledge of God's love and clarity of your calling to ministry in God's

name.

God's Peace,

Battle  +

                    Visit www.stmarksantioch.org  today !!

I would like to invite each of you to visit St. Mark’s web site. If you have not recently checked it out, there are many new pages and pictures to see.

It has been my privilege to serve as Webmaster for the web site the past 3 years.

I have to admit when I started I was somewhat uncertain of my abilities to maintain it! But being Webmaster has allowed me to learn so much! I’ve been able to try new things, some that worked and some that did not!

I learned how to create photo galleries enabling us to share our pictures more easily. I also have been able to incorporate Flash movie plug-ins that add animation to our pages.

In February of 2003, I added the certification of Certified Internet Webmaster Associate to my MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional in Visual Basic 6). I continue to

study to take the last 2 exams for full Site Designer certification.

Check out some of the new pages we have, as well as enhanced older pages;

bulletA new page devoted to our Daughter’s of the King Chapter at St. Mark’s!
bulletAn online slide show tour of St. Mark’s – outside and inside!
bulletOur monthly Gryphon newsletter adapted to the web.
bulletArchived Gryphon’s going back to September of 2001!
bulletA Bible Search Tool web page that links to the Blue Letter Bible web site. Very useful in researching scripture and commentary!
bulletA monthly calendar of events!
bulletA Prayer Request page – prayers are submitted via email and I transfer them to the web site!
bulletA continuously growing Photo Gallery of St. Mark’s “moments”!
bulletAnd much more to explore!!

I have more changes and additions planned for the future so visit the site often to see what’s new!

I wish to thank St. Mark’s for giving me this wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord and the community!

Blessings and Peace!

Dave Colvin

Where Is the Door to the Tavern?

Where is the door to God?

In the sound of a barking dog,

In the ring of a hammer,

                         In a drop of rain,

                           In the face of

                              Everyone

                                  I see.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING BREAKFAST

The next scheduled DOK 2nd Sunday breakfast is in April and falls on Easter.

Due to this fact we have moved the DOK Breakfast to Sunday, March 28th.

The menu has not yet been decided, but you can be sure it will be great.

We look forward to seeing everyone.

Blessings & Peace,

Debbie Colvin

MOVIE NIGHT !!

Movie Night is moving! Because of the Wednesday night soup suppers during Lent, we will be having movie night on Monday

evenings at 6:30 pm. Also we will have a theme appropriate to Lent and Easter: movies about Jesus. Suggestions welcome.

Questions? Please contact Lynn Kauppi at  lkauppi@tds.net, or lkauppi@umpublishing.org.  Also, anyone interested

in going with Lynn to see The Passion please call him at the above number.  He will be going in about a month.

KITCHEN  TALK

I have rearranged some of the storage in the kitchen so that hopefully, items will be more accessible.  I think everyone knows where the napkins, cups, plates, etc. are for setting up the coffee hour on Sundays and other events.  When this supply runs low, the lower corner cupboard and the end cupboard have extra supplies.

The tablecloths have also been rearranged with all the fabric tablecloths on one shelf and all the plastic tablecloths on another shelf.  If we all take responsibility for replacing the tablecloths folded and on the correct shelf, it will be easier to find what we need at any given time.

Please label all plates and storage containers with your name if you are leaving them for an event.  When they get left behind, we have no idea to whom they need to be returned and they either get broken or given away whenever the kitchen is cleaned.

If we all work together, it will keep the kitchen somewhat organized so it will be easier for all who work there.

                                                             Thanks,

                                                            Pam Carr-Brannon

Altar Flowers

The St. Marks Chapter of the Daughters of the King would like to share the beauty of Sunday’s altar flowers with those in our community who are experiencing troubled times in their lives.  Each Sunday, we will personally deliver the flowers to a member of the church or to a resident of a nursing home as a token of the love and concern of St. Marks parishioners.  If you have donated the altar flowers and wish us to deliver them to a special person or want to take them yourself, please let us know.  Contact Marcia Williams  e-mail (MamBNA@aol.com) to let us know your wishes.  If you don’t have someone in mind, we will rely on our priest and vestry to let us know to whom the flowers will be delivered.  We began this practice in February

St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Hendersonville invites you to attend
